COMMUNIQUE DE PRESSE - POUR DIFFUSION IMMEDIATE

Inauguré le 16 Novembre 2013, par la Ministre des Arts et de la Culture du Cameroun, Mme AMA TUTU MUNA, Bandjoun station présente sa deuxième exposition Stories Tellers, dont les commissaires sont Germain Noubi et Ange Tchetmi. Cette exposition offre la possibilité à huit artistes femmes et hommes d'horizons différents, à la veille de la prochaine Journée Mondiale de la Femme, de réveler leur voyages singuliers à travers des oeuvres d'une grande variété: Leslie Amine, Christa Eka, David Lynch, Elsa M'bali M’bala, Gabriel Tegneto, Freddy Tsimba et Hervé Youmbi. Suite à cette exposition, le directeur artistique Barthélémy Toguo fera un nouvel accrochage de la collection permanente avec de nouvelles oeuvres de Fossouo, Gastineau Massamba, Soly Cissé, Nari Ward, Chen Wembo, Dominique Zinkpè, ...

Our art center Bandjoun Station was inaugurated on November 16, 2013 by Mrs. Ama Tutu Muna, Minister of Arts and Culture of Cameroon. Germain Noubi and Ange Tchetmi are the curators of Stories Tellers, our second exhibition at Bandjoun Station. This event welcomes eight artists – women and men – from different horizons: Leslie Amine, Christa Eka, David Lynch, Elsa M’bali M’bala, Carolee Schneemann, Gabriel Tegneto, Freddy Tsimba et Hervé Youmbi. In the brink of the International Women’s Day, it will give them the opportunity to reveal their peculiar journeys through a great variety of works. Following this exhibition, the artistic director Barthélémy Toguo will present new works from our permanent collection by Fossouo, Gastineau Massamba , Soly Cissé, Nari Ward, Chen Wembo, Dominique Zinkpé, …

LESLIE AMINE
Diplômée de l’Ecole des Beaux-arts de Valence (France), Leslie Amine (francobéninoise), née en 1981, vit en France. Selon L. Compan, le travail de Leslie Amine est avant tout une histoire de géographie car, au fil de ses déplacements volontaires, elle témoigne de sa perception du monde. La série de dessins-collages sur papier présentée à Bandjoun Station fait suite au projet Identité, palimpseste initié deux ans plus tôt lors de sa résidence à la Cité Internationale des arts à Paris. 
LESLIE AMINE
Born in 1981, Leslie Amine, a French-Beninese, lives in France and graduated from the Ecole des beaux-arts of Valence, France. According to Leslie Compan, Amine’s work is above all a history of geography because she gives evidence of how she perceives the world through the lens of her travels. The series of drawings-collages on paper shown at Bandjoun Station follows the project called Identité, palimpseste initiated two years before while residing at the Cité internationale des arts de Paris. 

CHRISTA EKA
Autodidacte, Christa Eka est une jeune cinéaste camerounaise née en 1983 à Limbé. Après des études de comptabilité et de marketing, elle abandonne tout en 2006 pour se tourner vers sa passion : le cinéma. Aujourd’hui, après Doomart, elle en est à la réalisation de son deuxième court-métrage, Beleh. Cette fiction examine la relation qui existe entre Ekema, jeune mari très égoïste et irritable et sa femme enceinte Joffi. Mais, un beau matin, Ekema se trouve enceinte tandis que Joffi se retrouve dans la peau de son mari.
CHRISTA EKA
Christa Eka is a young self-taught Cameroonian film-maker born in 1983 at Limbe, Cameroon. After studying accountancy and marketing she dropped everything to turn to her passion: cinema. Following Doomart, she is currently making her second short  film, Beleh. This fictional work looks into the relation existing between Ekema, a young, very egoistic and irritable husband and his pregnant wife Joffi. But one day Ekema finds himself pregnant while Joffi is in the shoes of her husband.

DAVID LYNCH
Cinéaste américain de renommée internationale, David Lynch est aussi photographe,  musicien et peintre. Né en 1946 à Missoula, il vit et travaille aux USA. Son style est novateur et surréaliste, et il se caractérise surtout par une imagerie onirique. Pour la première fois sur le continent, David Lynch présente à Bandjoun Station, sa série American Hyeroglyphics ainsi que ses fictions.
DAVID LYNCH
American filmmaker of international renown, David Lynch is also a photographer, musician and painter. Born in 1946 in Missoula, he lives and works in the USA. His style is innovative and surreal, and it is characterized above all by an imagery dream. For the first time on the continent, David Lynch presents at Bandjoun Station, its American Hyeroglyphics series and its fictions. 

ELSA M’BALI M’BALA
Elsa M’bali M’bala, née en 1988 à Yaoundé. De nationalité allemande, elle vit et travaille entre l’Allemagne et le Cameroun. Polyglotte, Elsa est avant tout une citoyenne du monde. Aussi bien poète que musicienne, elle crée un duo avec Soul-Sista Akosua intitulé Rising thoughts . Elle participe à plusieurs workshops de poésie. De Décembre 2013 à Juin 2014, elle coédite et publie avec la photographe Simone Giles un magazine nommé freier. Pour l’exposition de Bandjoun Station, elle écrira des poèmes en relation avec la Journée Internationale de la Femme.
ELSA M’BALI MBALA
Elsa M’bali Mbala was born in 1988 in Yaoundé, Cameroon. Of German nationality, she works in Germany and in Cameroon. A polyglot, she is first and foremost a world citizen. A poet as well as a musician, she has created with Sista Akosua a duet called Rising Thoughts. She participates in different poetry workshops. From December 2013 to June 2014 she has coedited and published with the photographer Simone Giles a magazine called freier. On the occasion of the Bandjoun Station exhibit, she will write poems related to the International Women’s Day. 

CAROLEE SCHNEEMANN                                                                                                                                                          

Carolee Schneemann est née en 1939 à Fox Chase en Pennsylvanie. Elle est une artiste américaine multidisciplinaire qui a beaucoup travaillé avec le corps, s'intéressant notamment à la sexualité et au genre. Son oeuvre est principalement caractérisée par une recherche sur les traditions archaïques visuelles, les tabous, et  le corps de l'artiste dans sa relation dynamique avec le corps social. Ses vidéos seront présentées à Bandjoun Station.                                       

CAROLEE SCHNEEMANN  

Carolee Schneemann was born in 1939 at Fox Chase Pennsylvania. She is a multidisciplinary american artist. She transformed the definition of art, especially discourse on the body, sexuality, and gender. The history of her work is characterized by research into archaic visual traditions, pleasure wrested from suppressive taboos, the body of the artist in dynamic relationship with the social body. Her videos will be shown at Bandjoun Station.

GABRIEL TEGNOTO
Artiste autodidacte, né en 1971 au Cameroun, Gabriel Tegnoto a fait ses débuts dans la menuiserie-ébénisterie. Passionné par le travail fini du bois comme matériau noble, il commence par un dessin préparatoire, suivi du choix de l’essence, enfin de la réalisation finale sur laquelle il appose sa signature : style Gaby. Véritable architectures de meubles, ses oeuvres prennent des allures de Lit princesse, Le nid du roi, Trône royal , Lit provincial classique , Meuble d’audience, Canapé royal , Lit Pattes Eléphant , Fauteuil des chefs. Une trentaine de ces dessins et deux installations seront présentées à Bandjoun Station.
GABRIEL TEGNOTO
A self-taught artist, Gabriel Tegnoto was born in 1971 in Cameroon. He began as a joiner-cabinet maker. Wood is for him a noble material, which he carves and polishes passionately. First he makes a preparatory drawing, then chooses the species, and last inscribes on his creation « style Gaby », his signature. His works result in genuine architectures of furniture, like for example: Lit princesse , Le nid du roi, Trône royal , Lit provincial classique, Meuble d’audience , Canapé royal, Lit pattes d’éléphant , Fauteuil des chefs. Thirty of these drawings and two installations will be exhibited at Bandjoun Station. 

FREDDY TSIMBA
Diplômé de l’école des Beaux-Arts de Kinshasa, Freddy Tsimba est né en 1967 à Kinshasa (République démocratique du Congo). Mais, c’est auprès des forgerons qu’il apprend la technique du feu et de la soudure. En utilisant comme médium les douilles de cartouche, les cuillères ou les machettes, Freddy dénonce à sa façon les tragédies engendrées par la guerre. En témoigne, Maison Machette : une création in situ, une oeuvre monumentale constituée de plusieurs centaines de coupe-coupe, qui sera réalisée et exposée à Bandjoun Station.
FREDDY TSIMBA
Born in 1967 in Kinshasa, Freddy Tsimba graduated from the Ecole des beaux-arts of Kinshasa (République Démocratique du Congo). It is with the smiths though that he learned the techniques of fire and soldering. Using cases of cartridges, spoons or machetes as material, Tsimba informs against the tragedies brought about by war. Maison machette, his monumental work made of hundreds of machetes, will be created and exhibited at Bandjoun Station. 

HERVE YOUMBI
Hervé Youmbi, né en 1973, est un artiste camerounais qui vit à Douala. Après avoir travaillé le portrait en peinture, sculpture, photo et vidéo, sa démarche artistique se concentre aujourd’hui autour de l’impact de la colonisation sur la production des masques rituels et cultuels en Afrique. A la suite de sa résidence à Bandjoun Station, il crée une installation hybride, intitulée Visages de masques, qui associe les visions traditionnelles et modernes de la culture du masque dans un monde de plus en plus globalisé.
HERVE YOUMBI
Born in 1973, Hervé Youmbi is a Cameroonian artist living in Douala, Cameroon. After painting, sculpting, photographing and videoing portraits, he focalizes on the impact of colonization on the production of ritual and worship masks in Africa. In the continuation of his residence in Bandjoun Station, he has created a hybrid installation called Visages de masques, which associates traditional and modern visions of the mask culture in a more and more globalized world.
